Synopsis
MOURNING TO MORNING is the latest play by Newport/New York playwright, Maureen Barnes. It is a theatrical response merging original words, music and images. It commemorates the events of 9/11/01. A long standing member of the Dramatists Guild, Ms. Barnes has had thirteen plays successfully produced in New York and Newport This production includes performers from Newport, New York and Providence. Ilene Kristen, formerly Delia on "Ryan's Hope" and presently, Roxy Balsom on "One life to Live" is one of the musical collaborators. Her song, "Flesh & Blood" is part of the play. Other musical contributors are: Jerry Marotta, Mark Rasmussen, Bruce Milner, Maureen Barnes and Laura Kessler. Other collaborators include film makers Julia Mintz, Peter Heady, Maureen Barnes, Sheila Sullivan & Philip Baskin. Bringing her first hand experience of the tragedy to the project, Dara Gell, a ten year old actress/singer from NYC, will be featured among the cast of seven.. Dara is a student at P.S. 89, the closest elementary school to the Twin Towers. MOURNING TO MORNING seeks to address the fear that lingers since the attacks of last September. The play, one part of The 9/11 Series, was first performed in New York City on December 11, 2001.
